How it works

Cheaper fuel in three steps

01

Enter your postcode

Tell us where you are or where you're going. PetrolPing instantly geocodes your location and searches all nearby stations within a 5km radius.

02

See every price, ranked

We pull live prices from the UK Government Fuel Finder — the same data fuel retailers are legally required to submit. Sorted by distance, colour-coded by value.

03

Fill up smarter

Our fill-up verdict uses market signals — crude oil prices, GBP/USD, day-of-week patterns — to tell you whether to fill today or wait. The AI model explains the reasoning.

FAQ

Common questions

How does PetrolPing find cheap petrol near me?

PetrolPing uses the UK Government Fuel Finder API to pull live prices from over 7,000 stations daily. It geocodes your postcode and returns the nearest stations sorted by distance, with price comparisons against your local area average. The data comes from the mandatory fuel price reporting scheme — every retailer with 6+ forecourts must report within 30 minutes of a price change.

How accurate are the fuel prices?

Very accurate. Prices are sourced directly from the UK Government mandatory reporting scheme. Large retailers like Tesco, Asda, and BP update within 30 minutes of any price change. Independent stations update at least daily. PetrolPing syncs every morning and additionally tracks intraday changes.

Is PetrolPing free to use?

Yes. The free plan shows live prices from all nearby stations with colour-coded price comparisons, outlier alerts, and a daily fill-up verdict. Pro (£2.49/mo) adds price history charts, day-of-week analysis, and saved locations. Intelligence (£4.99/mo) adds AI market forecasting personalised to your local area using Brent crude and GBP/USD data.

How much can I realistically save?

The typical price spread within a 5km radius is 3–8p per litre. For a 50-litre fill-up, choosing the cheapest station saves £1.50–£4.00. Filling up twice a month, that's £36–£96 per year. Pro users who also use day-of-week timing (Monday/Tuesday tend to be cheaper) can save an additional £20–£40 annually.

What fuel types does PetrolPing cover?

PetrolPing covers all four fuel types reported under the UK scheme: E10 (standard unleaded petrol), E5 (premium unleaded), B7 standard diesel, and B7 premium diesel. You can switch fuel type in the app settings.

Does PetrolPing work for diesel drivers?

Yes. Switch to Diesel in the app and all prices, comparisons, and AI forecasts update to diesel data. The wholesale-to-pump dynamics for diesel are slightly different (more exposure to gasoil prices than Brent crude), which the Intelligence tier's AI model accounts for.

Is my postcode data private?

Your postcode is stored locally on your device and sent only to our API to calculate nearby stations. We do not store individual user postcodes on our servers, sell data to third parties, or use location data for advertising.
